Pepper from India
In 2012, the search for THE Indian pepper for my online shop took me to the Western Ghats region, one of the highest rainfall zones in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. This is where I met Sujata. She and her husband have owned a pepper plantation for over 20 years. As biologists, they have made organic pepper cultivation their mission. It was the kind of plantation I was looking for: the two live biodiversity. In addition to pepper, cardamom, coffee, vanilla and various types of fruit such as mango and pineapple grow on the farm. The pepper grows on native trees such as Ficus religiosa, Shorea and Cinnamomum. All of these cultures and the good climatic conditions give the pepper its unique aroma and excellent quality.
Do you have green pepper?
For many years I had to answer this question with "Unfortunately, no." The reason for this was that I simply couldn't find any really good green pepper. Pickled in brine or freeze-dried, boo, that wasn't good green pepper for me. So for many years there was simply no green pepper at Pure Pepper.
Premiere for a first-class green pepper from India
In India I was able to find a very good green pepper. It is neither freeze-dried nor pickled in brine, but first dehydrated and then dried in an electric chamber at a constant temperature for a certain period of time and then cooled outside. This is how this green pepper retains its extraordinary, fresh aroma. And you will taste it. And the name? Well, Thekkady is the growing area in Kerala where the pepper comes from. It is harvested by small farmers who receive a fair price for it regardless of the harvest.
