Black pepper
Black pepper was originally native to the moist monsoon forests of India. Today, however, black pepper also grows in Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Cambodia, among other places. The spherical berries of the evergreen pepper bush grow on panicles that resemble currants. Black pepper is obtained from the unripe green or the yellow fruits that are about to ripen. And then gently dried. Drying in the sun preserves the aromas of the shell, which makes it so particularly intense. Drying also causes the grains to turn black and wrinkled.
