aroma
Sweet, mild aroma, hardly any spiciness.
Origin
The origin of the Rose du Liban is quite interesting. The tree that produces the fruit is the Peruvian pepper tree (Schiunus Molle), which is also found in Lebanon. Although it is not endemic, i.e. native. How did it get to Lebanon? Well, there are many possibilities. What is certain is that it grows very well in Lebanon - and has done so for decades.
In Peru, where the tree is native, it was considered sacred by the Incas. All parts of the plant, including the pink fruit, were used by the Incas because of their positive effects on health.
There are variants of the tree also in Brazil and other countries in South America.
use
Due to its mild, fruity, peppery taste, Rose du Liban is suitable for seasoning salad dressings, vegetables and also for adding a special touch to desserts.
I would not recommend putting the pink berries into the pepper mill together with black, white or green pepper, as then you won't be able to taste much of the delicate aroma of the pink pepper.
Only season Rose du Liban after cooking so that the grains do not burn and taste bitter.
