This pepper is a wild pepper that is not cultivated. Instead, it is only harvested when needed. The taste is spicy and hot with a warm tone.

It belongs to the botanical species Piper Capense and grows in the southwestern highlands of Ethiopia. The dark brown, elongated cones are the dried fruits of the Piper Capense.

Pure Pepper Timiz pepper is grown in areas where the weather and season are not ideal for drying spices. Therefore, the farmers dry the pepper over the fire. This gives the pepper its smoky character.
